Chinese CS/LS2: A Modern Bullpup SMG with no Redeeming Qualities

From Forgotten Weapons on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 in Rifles, & Videos

Cool Forgotten Weapons merch!

This the fairly modern Chinese CS/LS2 - the 9mm Parabellum export model of the 5.8mm QCW-05 submachine gun. It takes most of its design cues form the QBZ-95 rifle, as you can see form the grip layout. It is a bullpup, with a right-ride ejection port that cannot be swapped. It is a bullpup style design, with the magazine behind the trigger, and it fires from an open bolt with both semiautomatic and full auto selector options.
The receiver is made of aluminum, contributing to a quite light gun. The bolt is also relatively light, resulting in a high cyclic rate and more felt recoil than many 9mm SMGs. The bolt is slamming into the rear of the receiver on each shot, which causes a lot of movement in the gun while shooting. The iron sights are a removable option on an integral pica tinny rail, which is a good thing - they are awful. The same minuscule rear aperture that the QBZ rifle has. The suppressor is not particularly efficient.
I have no prejudice against Chinese small arms - Chinese AKs were/are extremely well made. But this modern bullpup family is really pretty mediocre in all its forms.
Many thanks to Movie Armaments Group in Toronto for the opportunity to showcase their AR-10 rifles for you! Check them out on Instagram to see many of the guns in their extensive collection:

So what I'm hearing is "If you just improved the build quality with the rail and increased the weight of the bolt" it would be adequate?

In China we use 5.8mm bullet and fill the cartridge with rice instead of gunpowder

At the end of the day it still shoots 9mm bullets reliably, which is way more than commies deserve.

Lesson for today, it isn’t too hard to appear modern and impressive, but the lack of R&D has to count somewhere.

if only the Chinese guns performed as good as it looks.

One important thing to know: this design (QCW-05) was designed for firing a 5.8x21mm ammo. For this 9mm version, the problem is coming from the "unsuitable ammo for this design".

You get what you pay for regardless of nationality, it seems. Also... it just seems like it was designed with a set of ideas in mind that just dont work really well in terms of SMG design requirements. Lightweight is awesome as a feature, but it came at the cost of quite a lot of usability and comfort. The sights unscrewing themselves was sad, but many have mentioned the various glue solutions and I imagine whoever these got issued to quickly just did that and didn't worry about it. Is it a good design? No. Can you more or less correct the problem after production? Yes.I strongly doubt this is China-bashing. Someone sounded a bit like a China fanboy with that line of reasoning... this is "crappy gun bashing" for sure. Given a choice between that and an MP5... I'm pretty sure I'll opt for the MP5 every time. The point is automatic fire (I'm told) and as such the Chinese gun did not look at all pleasant or controllable to fire.

Doesn't seem to climb as much as other SMGs I've seen Ian fire. But that's just because of the lighter round, I suppose?
Lazurkri Tuesday, February 19th, 2019
...its a Red Chinese design and manufactured by shitty workers...I'm not surprised its a PoS, but hopefully it means that if/when war breaks out, hopefully this weapon causes the deaths of many Red Chinese!

That's Lesion's gun isn't it? It's actually good in that game
Fetish Artist Monday, February 18th, 2019
While the gun looks neat, seeing the ejection port and the bolt moving that close to your face is disturbing. Like jamming a mac 10 right under your eye. Looks like it should have a cheek piece.

Gun itself (the bolt-batter-induced recoil ) is a psyop to make their troops feel like they are shooting more powerful guns than their enemies :P
RapeNinja Sunday, February 17th, 2019
Its unscrewing. The damn lugs on the sight-rails are unscrewing .You will notice it in slow-mo firing.
Florian Bösch Sunday, February 17th, 2019
It has two outstanding redeeming qualities. 1) It is made from chinesium and probaly costs 50 cents in production by child labor 2) any idiot can shoot it because recoil, firing rate and sights render all marksmanship superfluous to requirements.
matt daley Sunday, February 17th, 2019
Do a video on the type 81 next time your in Canada.

The only good gun China manufactured were their AKs and SKS rifles, and those were licensed copies of Russian guns.
