Chinese CS/LS2: A Modern Bullpup SMG with no Redeeming Qualities

From Forgotten Weapons on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 in Rifles, & Videos

Cool Forgotten Weapons merch!

This the fairly modern Chinese CS/LS2 - the 9mm Parabellum export model of the 5.8mm QCW-05 submachine gun. It takes most of its design cues form the QBZ-95 rifle, as you can see form the grip layout. It is a bullpup, with a right-ride ejection port that cannot be swapped. It is a bullpup style design, with the magazine behind the trigger, and it fires from an open bolt with both semiautomatic and full auto selector options.
The receiver is made of aluminum, contributing to a quite light gun. The bolt is also relatively light, resulting in a high cyclic rate and more felt recoil than many 9mm SMGs. The bolt is slamming into the rear of the receiver on each shot, which causes a lot of movement in the gun while shooting. The iron sights are a removable option on an integral pica tinny rail, which is a good thing - they are awful. The same minuscule rear aperture that the QBZ rifle has. The suppressor is not particularly efficient.
I have no prejudice against Chinese small arms - Chinese AKs were/are extremely well made. But this modern bullpup family is really pretty mediocre in all its forms.
Many thanks to Movie Armaments Group in Toronto for the opportunity to showcase their AR-10 rifles for you! Check them out on Instagram to see many of the guns in their extensive collection:

When I saw the thumbnail I thought to myself ´´No way that they have a Groza on here´´ and then I looked closer and got dissapointed.

fires a tiny bullet, at low velocity (ie very little stopping power) and the thing only has a rate of fire of 500rpm. the thing is literally your standard made in china trashim of course talking about their 5.8 military version. They do have a version that has a rpm 0f 900. bu their standard infantry one only does like 500 rpm. so yeah pretty sub standard compared to western and Russian guns.>I recall a time on 4chan's /k/ and me and some guys where talking about how Chinese guns are substandard compared to US fire arms. >some 50cent army troll attempts to convince me that a 5.8mm bullet travelling at sub sonic speeds will still pen body armor.>it obvious that this troll was spewing chicom propaganda, because obviously a bullet that small and travelling that slowly compared to a 9mm WILL NOT PEN BODY ARMOR.

I believe this was developed solely for the purpose of allowing standard Type 95 users to switch to this without having to redevelop muscle memory.

Frankly, if Ian were to ever find himself alone: aboard a huge spaceship; thousands of light years from any help; pursued by a Xenomorph, then I am confident he could find SOME redeeming qualities, with this tough little Chinese sub gun.
Bird_Dog Friday, February 22nd, 2019
Well, it seems to work as intendet. You pull the trigger and lead comes out the front...That's good, right?Btw.: that slow-mo sequence with the screws on the sight unscrewing themselves was mesmerizing...
Dan Friday, February 22nd, 2019
Ian, are you just dissing it, because you’re a US citizen and it is Chinese?
Daniele Martello Friday, February 22nd, 2019

That slowmo scene after you fired it, looks like the whole gun is going to rattle apart.and now go do a video on thier bullpup LMG, is that also based on the Type 97 AR?

The designs they don’t steal are garbage, what a surprise.
Taylor Young Friday, February 22nd, 2019
Full auto in Canada? I was under the assumption that fully automatic was prohibited here. Anybody care to explain?
aviatorEngineer Friday, February 22nd, 2019
The phrases "bullpup" and "no redeeming qualities" seem to go together more often than not. There are decent examples, even some good examples, of bullpup weapons, but a lot of them seem to just fall flat for some reason.
Jed Z Friday, February 22nd, 2019
Just a note: the Chinese military has an old (and sometimes odd) tradition of reloading with right hand. This is why the magazine location seems weird on Type95 97 and this gun.

This is what you get from a country that tries to replicate western weapons but don't have the knowledge or will to spend to reach western standards.

I'll give 'em points for effort.

So what I'm hearing is "If you just improved the build quality with the rail and increased the weight of the bolt" it would be adequate?
